Chief Justice’s resignation is our ultimate demand: Nepal Bar Association

Nepal Bar and SC judges held discussions Monday; discussions to continue Tuesday as well

KATHMANDU: Nepal Bar Association has said Chief Justice’s resignation is their ultimate demand.

Nepal Bar said so in a discussion held with Supreme Court (SC) judges on Monday.

Both Nepal Bar and SC judges have been carrying out various protest programs to mount pressure on Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana to resign. While Nepal Bar is staging sit-in at the front gate of the apex court to stop CJ Rana from entering the court, SC judges have been boycotting benches to achieve their common goal of CJ Rana’s resignation.

During the discussion held today, Nepal Bar clarified that the bottom line of their struggle was the resignation of Chief Justice Rana. Nepal Bar President Chandeshwar Shrestha told KhabarHub about the gist of Monday’s meeting.

“We have told the SC judges that the resignation of the Chief Justice is our bottom line. We have urged SC judges to cooperate with the Bar to achieve Rana’s resignation.”

According to Nepal Bar President Shrestha, SC judges, on their behalf, said they would hold an internal discussion and again meet with Nepal Bar representatives on Tuesday.

Bar President Shrestha also clarified that various rumors had been circulating concerning the absence of few SC judges in Monday’s meeting. Dismissing such rumors, he added all 19 SC judges would be present at the discussion Tuesday.
