Disgruntled lawyers to “bar CJ Rana from entering office” today

Lawyers asked to gather at 9:30 am

KATHMANDU: Agitating lawyers have warned they would bar Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana from entering his office today.

Lawyers said they would gather on the premises of the Supreme Court at 9:30 am today and not allow CJ Rana to enter the court.

Nepal Bar Association Chairman Chandeshwor Shrestha also accused the Chief Justice of promoting corruption in the judiciary.

The agitating lawyers staged a sit-in on the court premises demanding the resignation of CJ Rana yesterday.

Shrestha also said that CJ Rana be relieved of his post immediately.

Addressing a gathering on the premises of the Supreme Court Thursday, Chairman Shrestha accused Chief Justice Rana of becoming a kingpin behind the rampant corruption taking place in the Supreme Court.

He also blamed Chief Justice for using security forces to intervene in the protests being staged peacefully. The Nepal Bar has been upping the ante against Rana since October 31.

Meanwhile, even though CJ Rana formed a single bench and scheduled six cases, no hearings were done yesterday.

Likewise, 19 SC justices said they would not consider CJ Rana as their leader.

Tensions were high on the Supreme Court premises on Thursday as police intervened in the protest rally organized by the Nepal Bar.
