President Bhandari reaches Lumbini

LUMBINI: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has reached Lumbini today.

In Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha, she is scheduled to visit Bajrayan Vihar, worship at Mayadevi temple, and acquire information about the Lumbini Development Master Plan, said Bhikkhu Metteya, Vice-chair of the Lumbini Development Trust.

Acting Prime Minister and Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand and Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Prem Bahadur Ale will also be joining the President’s visit to Lumbini.

On Saturday, National Assembly Speaker Ganesh Timilsana, former Minister Krishna Gopal Shrestha, Bagmati Speaker Sanukumar Shrestha, former Bagmati Minister Ajay Kranti Shakya, MP Nawaraj Silval, Surya Pathak, Kathmandu Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya, Deputy Mayor Hari Prabha Khadgi and secretaries of various ministries arrived in Lumbini.

According to Metteya, the President is scheduled to unveil the White Jade Buddha statue at Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa today after the Lumbini visit. The Buddha statue was brought from Burma at the initiative of the Lumbini Garden Foundation.

At the invitation of the Foundation, a delegation including Martin Delgado, Speaker of the Extramadura Province of Spain, and Minister of Culture Nuria Flores Redondo have arrived in Lumbini.

Chief District Officer Rishiram Tiwari said that security has been tightened in Rupandehi, considering the high-level visit.
