NC Election Committee begins discussion on new schedule of General Convention

KATHMANDU: A meeting of the Central Election Committee (CEC) of the Nepali Congress (NC) has begun to discuss the new schedule of the General Convention.

NC CEC Coordinator Mahadev Yadav had said a meeting was to be held at the party office in Sanepa on Monday afternoon. He said, “We are holding a meeting to discuss how to move the programs of the General Convention forward.”

The CEC engaged in discussions after the general convention did not move ahead as per predetermined scheduled.

As per previously determined schedule, province conventions should have taken place on October 27-29. However, even ward conventions have yet to be held in 13 districts. The Central General Convention scheduled for November 25-19 is unlikely to be held on the scheduled date.

The CEC had decided to hold district conventions in 21 Himalayan districts before Dashain, but in that period only 13 districts held district conventions, while ward conventions have yet to be held in eight districts of Province 2. The active membership dispute in Rautahat and Rasuwa als has not been resolved.

The CEC is preparing to move ahead to conclude ward convention in districts where it is yet to be held before Tihar. The NC has already revised the date of the Central General Convention four times.
