PK Campus Chief fined Rs 15,000 for refusing to give information

KATHMANDU: The National Information Commission (NIC) has fined Rs 15,000 to Chief of Padma Kanya (PK) Campus Dhan Prasad Pandit for not giving information on the internal audit and final audit report conducted by the Office of the Auditor-General.

The NIC handed down such decision in a petition filed by Aditya Dahal, a permanent resident of Melamchi Municipality-10 in Sindhupalchowk district and currently living at Kapan in Kathmandu.

Information Officer at NIC Bishwo Bandhu Pokhrel said that the verdict was given as per Clause 32 of the Act on Right to Information 2064 slapping Rs 15,000 in fine to the office chief while ordering to give information.

Dahal had sought the certified copies of PK Campus’s internal audit and final audit report conducted by the Office of the Auditor General from the fiscal year 2073/74 BS to 2075/76 BS.

Likewise, Dahal had asked whether or not an information officer was assigned in the campus while seeking the certified copies of the appointment of the information officer if such an appointment was made.

For failing to get information from the campus in accordance to Act on Right to Information 2064, Dahal had registered a petition some nine months ago by naming the campus chief and information officer as defendants for concealing information.

The NIC slapped Rs 15,000 in fine for blatantly violating the citizen’s right to information and civic rights despite repeated directives to provide information after the registration of the petition.
