Over 50,000 Nepalis return home through Jamunaha in five days

BANKE: A growing number of Nepalis have been returning home from India through the Jamunaha checkpoint in Nepalgunj in recent days to celebrate Dashain.

The number of Nepalis returning home has been increasing daily as Dashain approaches, according to Rajan Prasad Bhattarai, chief police inspector at the Area Police Office, Jamunaha, Banke. He said more than 50,000 Nepalis had returned home through the Jamunaha checkpoint in the past five days.

“There is a rush of Nepalis returning home from India to celebrate Dashain from morning to evening. More than 10,000 people are entering Nepal through the Jamunaha checkpoint every day,” he said. “Nepal Police has been coordinating and taking necessary measures to prevent criminal activities, including robbery, against them in the border area.”

Nepalis who had been working in New Delhi, Mumbai and various cities in Himachal Pradesh are currently returning home to celebrate Dashain.

Banke Chief District Officer Dil Kumar Tamang said a passenger assistance center has been established at the Jamunaha border crossing to ensure that Nepalis returning from India for the festivals are not robbed, cheated or stranded at the border and can safely reach their destinations.

“We have identified potential risks by prioritizing the safety of citizens and have implemented a security plan accordingly,” said CDO Tamang. “The passenger assistance center has been established at the Jamunaha border crossing so that Nepalis returning from India do not face problems such as fraud, robbery and other difficulties along the way.”

He said the center would provide necessary information, coordination and assistance to ensure the convenience and safety of the large number of Nepali passengers returning home from India during the festival season.

Banke Police Chief Superintendent of Police Angur GC said a special security plan had been implemented to control possible criminal activities during the festival season. He said security arrangements had also been made to ensure that Nepalis returning from India reach their destinations safely.

Superintendent of Police GC said passenger assistance rooms would also be operated at Nepalgunj and Kohalpur bus parks from Tuesday, targeting the influx of Nepalis returning from India.
