NEA and ISPs engage in tug-of-war over utility poles

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has started removing internet cables from the electricity poles.

The NEA and the Internet Service Providers are in a tug of war as the NEA said it would hike the rental charges of its utility poles, which are being used by the ISPs.

The NEA has blamed the ISPs for failing to clear the dues for the use of the poles while the ISPs have said that the NEA’s decision to hike the rate as unfair.

The ISPs have already approached the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) to increase internet prices by Rs 150 to Rs 300 per subscriber.
