NC leader Singh firm on contesting party presidency

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Prakash Man Singh has said that he will vie for the post of party president at the upcoming 14th general convention.

Inaugurating an assembly of NC Kathmandu Metropolitan Committee Saturday, Singh said he was in the race to become the ‘first man’ to make the party a competent force.

“I was born in Kathmandu and am the son of Ganeshman and Mangaladevi. Does this disqualify me from becoming the president?” He argued, adding, “Sons of other leaders have got chances.”

He rued that NC cadres in the capital city always took native leaders as small time leaders and those coming from outside as greater leaders. “Backing up leaders coming from outside has resulted in NC cadres falling behind,” he reasoned.

Leader Singh urged the cadres not to laud such leaders who could not work. He was of the view that the current party President Sher Bahadur Deuba and senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel should rest their political journey as they could not work even when they got opportunity after the 13th general convention.

Leader Singh said people sought new leadership to revive people’s trust in the NC.
