Fugitive convict in Bhaktaman Shrestha abduction case falls in police net



KATHMANDU: A fugitive criminal involved in the abduction of the then director of BP Koirala Cancer Hospital, Bharatpur, Dr. Bhaktaman Shrestha has been nabbed by police on Tuesday.

According to sources, Rajendra Pandit, who was announced to nine years in prison, was arrested by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police from Mulabari, Nuwakot.

Pandit was sentenced by the then appellate court, Hetauda, ​​to nine years in prison and a fine of Rs 50,000.

He had been hiding in India for a long time. He was arrested by the CIB while returning home. He is being produced in court on Wednesday to implement the court’s decision.

Criminals from Rohit Paliwal and Bhimsen Pandit’s groups had abducted the then director Shrestha on May 18, 2010 while he was returning home from the hospital. The abductors had recovered 3.6 kg gold Lucknow, India as ransom.

Rajendra is the nephew of Bhimsen, the absconding mastermind behind the crime.
