Police nab four for attacking a woman on witch allegation in Kathmandu



KATHMANDU: Despite launching several programs to end the violence against women in the country, the capital city Kathmandu itself has witnessed a heinous incident of assaulting a woman on allegation of witchcraft. Police have nabbed four including the victim’s husband.

According to Kathmandu police, the arrested are Dipendra Kumar Thing, Dash Narayan Maharjan, Janardan Pandey and the victim’s husband.

The incident took place on September 5.

A 30-year-old woman from Lubhu, Lalitpur was taken to Thing’s residence at Thulobharyang, Swoambhu in a taxi driven by her husband after she was diagnosed with stomach ache.

Maharjan was also present at the hotel along with Thing. While the woman’s husband, taxi driver and hotel staff were also present, Thing, the shaman started harassing her.

The police which had arrested the accused tormentors on the basis of the FIR filed by the victim informed that there are bruises everywhere in the woman’s body.

Spokesperson of the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police, SP Ramesh Basnet, said that an investigation has been launched for details.
