KATHMANDU: Newly appointed Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Prabhuram Sharma is to address the Nepal Army (NA) overall ranks and outline the strategic roadmap of his three-year tenure on Friday.
After taking oath from the Supreme Commander Chief President Bidya Devi Bhandari, COAS General Sharma held a Principal Staff Officers’ (PSO) meeting and briefed about his working plan on Thursday. At the meeting, he urged the NA ranks to move forward through a collective spirit by embracing a supportive role during his tenure.
Sharma became the 44th CoAS of the Nepal Army after he was conferred the insignia of the rank by President Bhandari at Shital Niwas in the presence of Prime Minister, Chief Justice, Speaker of Parliament, National Assembly Chairman, Home Minister and many other high-ranking government officials.
According to the military tradition, the newly appointed COAS was also accorded a guard of honor by a unit at the Nepal Army Headquarters in Bhadrakali. After the honor, he assumed the charge of the COAS.
COAS General Sharma also laid wreaths at Sainik Manch in Tundikhel and Bir Smarak in Chhauni.
As per the recommendation of the cabinet on August 19 to promote Sharma to the rank of General and appoint him as the COAS, the Supreme Commander of the Nepal Army President Bhandari appointed him as the Commander-in-Chief in accordance with Article 267, Clause 50 of the Constitution.
Sharma was born in Kathmandu on December 9, 1963. He entered Nepal Army service in 1983 as Second Lieutenant and he had held various important posts.
