Doctors at Trauma Center complain about unjust promotion of low-ranking employees

KATHMANDU: Senior doctors of the National Trauma Center have handed over a letter to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Minister of State for Health Umesh Shrestha and Health Secretary, drawing their attention towards attempts to appoint a junior colleague as medical superintendent at the facility. They have called for halting such unjust considerations.

Dr. Rudra Marasini, Mamata Bhattarai, Rupesh Yadav, Abhay Kumar Pokhrel, Silu Shrestha and Binod Sherchan of the facility have demanded priority to senior doctors for promotions.

“We, doctors serving at the 11th level, have to work under doctors at the 10th level, who are inexperienced and younger than us. This also poses problems in the daily execution of work. We feel humiliated and the government’s promotion system is unjustified when a much junior colleague is given the responsibility of chief,” their letter read.

They requested to put an end to the wrong tradition of securing appointments based on political connection in the coming days and start the practice of giving responsibility as per the prevailing Health Act and regulations on the basis of efficiency and seniority.

Tenth level Dr. Santosh Poudel is the chief of National Trauma Center and the government is preparing to make changes to the leadership there. Employees protested the bid to appoint 10th level employees to senior positions.
