12 roads still inoperative



KATHMANDU: Twelve roads, damaged by the floods and landslides in different parts of the country, are yet to open for traffic.

This year, a total of 182 roads were damaged due to monsoon-induced disaster, causing traffic disruption.

Currently, 111 roads have only one-way traffic. The Dumre-Beshisahar-Chame roadway suffered worst due to the rainfall.

Similarly, various local roads in Manang and Lamjung are still obstructed at Timal stream, Dharapani, Ram bazaar, Argale, Bagarchhap and others.

Similarly, the road linking Rasuwa and Nuwakot via Galchhi-Rasuwagadhi has been damaged at various places.

The floods in a local Maithali stream damaged the roadway badly. The Tribhuvan Highway has been obstructed at nine spots.

Liping stream in Sindhupalchowk also damaged the Kodari Highway. The division road offices and heavy equipment office under the Department of Roads have been making efforts to open the roads.

However, there is no condition to open two-way vehicular movement for some days, the Department said.

The Siddhartha Highway, Karnali Highway, Rapti Highway, Prithvi Highway, Mid-Hill Highway were also damaged by the monsoon-induced disasters in several places.

Although one-way opening was possible in these highways, it is to take time for the two-way traffic. The roadways were damaged in May and June.
