Kodari Highway partially opened

KATHMANDU: The Kodari Highway under the Araniko Highway which had collapsed nearby Tatopani check point in Sindhupalchowk district following a massive flood on June 15 has been partially opened after maintenance.

Efforts were being made to resume traffic movement in the Highway that connects with the bordering China. Now that the Highway has come into operation partially, preparation are afoot to resume vehicular movement in the Highway in full-fledge in some weeks, said Bijay Mahato, engineer at the Road Division Office, Dolakha.

The flood-damaged Liping Bridge has also come into operation after a support was given to all pillars of the bridge. Flood, landslide and soil-erosion among other monsoon-induced disasters had caused many road section under the Highway cave in.

Opening one of the important checkpoints with China and operating the Highway was imperative in view of nearing festivals, viewed engineer Mahato.

There has been no exports recorded from Nepal to China through the Tatopani Checkpoint while imports have been recorded but not in bulk as in the past.
