Special court convicts Minister’s secretary on corruption



JANAKPURDHAM: A personal secretary of former Minister of State Laxman Mehta has been convicted of corruption and sentenced to jail form more than a month.

Nagendra Prasad Yadav, 46, of Nawarajpur-1, Siraha was arrested by Siraha Police on Wednesday and sent to Siraha Jail.

Yadav had been a fugitive after being convicted by a special court eight years ago.

Earlier, he was arrested by a team of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) in Kathmandu on 29 February, 2012 for accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.

At that time, Yadav was released on Rs 50,000 bail. However, Yadav was absconding after a special court found him guilty of corruption on July 15, 2013.

The court had sentenced Yadav to one month and 20 days in jail and fined him Rs 50,000.

Siraha Police Spokesperson Subash Budhathoki said that, the convict was arrested during the police campaign to search the absconding criminals. He was arrested eight years after the verdict.
