MWFC calls for special relief package for working journalists

KATHMANDU: The Minimum Wage Fixation Committee (MWFC) has urged the government to announce and implement a special relief package targeting the working journalists affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Committee’s board meeting chaired by its president Rajendra Aryal today expressed its serious concern over several media houses not paying and providing facilities to the working journalists, transferring journalists to places inconvenient for them, and laying off many more during the adverse situation of the pandemic.

]The meeting also urged the sides concerned to immediately stop such activities as the journalists were facing economic as well as mental torture due to such activities.

The Committee has decided to draw the attention of the media houses concerned to the need of forthwith stopping such activities and creating an environment conducive for journalists to carry out their works smoothly.

It also decided to recommend to the government to stop the services and facilities provided by the State to the media houses if they still failed to stop such activities.
