Nine persons arrested with drugs worth Rs 50 million

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested nine people with drugs worth Rs 50 million. The drug peddlers were arrested from different places in Kathmandu along with 1 kilogram 512 grams of cocaine.

Police arrested them on the basis of a tip-off that cocaine was being traded.

Police had arrested four persons with 500 grams of cocaine from a hotel in Paknajol of Kathmandu on July 22. Similarly, a search at Man Gurung’s rented room helped in recovery of 2.4 kg yellow metal.

According to SP Jeevan Shrestha, spokesperson for Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), nine persons were arrested in connection with the same incident.

The arrested are Suraj Gurung, 45, of Bharatpur Metropolitan City-7, Anju Thapa Magar, 43, of Kathmandu metropolis-3, Muna Tamang, 39, Rocky Ale Magar, 28, Royal Thapa Magar, 23, and Sandeep Patel, 39, of South Goa, India.

Likewise, Miraj Dhakal, 27, of Nilkantha Municipality-11, Dhading, Machhindra Dhamala, 27, and Sudan Shakya, 49, of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-23 were also arrested.

Police recovered 1.529 kg cocaine from them. They also seized 34 grams of marijuana and Rs. 788,000 in cash. The illegal market value of the seized drugs is more than 45.36 million rupees, according to the police.

Further investigation into them is underway.
