ADB urged to conduct geological study of area above Melamchi project

KATHMANDU: The government has urged the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to carry out a geological study of the area above the Melamchi Drinking Water Project.

At a meeting of the Development and Technology Committee of the House of Representatives (HoR) on Monday, Secretary for Drinking Water Pramila Devi Bajracharya informed the committee that she had written to the ADB to conduct a geological study of the area above the main dam of the Melamchi project.

“The area above the project’s headwork is flooded with silt. We asked the ADB to undertake a long-term geological study of the area above the project site and submit a report,” she said.

She added the project was uncertain after the recent flooding brought silt covering the area above the headwork.
