SSB not involved in Mahakali River ‘tuin’ incident: Official of Pithoragarh, India

Pithoragarh offical writes to Darchula CDO



KATHMANDU: The Indian side has claimed that SSB was not involved in an incident involving disappearance of a man by falling into Mahakali River after Seema Surakashya Bal (SSB) cut down a ropeway – ‘tuin’.

Ananda Swaroop, district officer of Pithoragarh, India, wrote to Darchula Chief District Officer Siddharaj Joshi denying SSB’s involvement in the incident as publicized.

“Based on our correspondence on Friday, the district officer of Pithoragarh has sent a written reply,” Darchula CDO Joshi told the media. “SSB is not involved as publicized and such is not our intention. The man fell as he could not cross the river,” the letter read, as per Joshi.

The letter added it was, however, true that the Indian side was on duty in the SSB Malghat area at the time of the incident. “Our men reached the incident site during patrol but the SSB is not involved as publicized in Nepal.”

Following the incident, India too deployed a team of SSB in the Mahakali River to assist the Nepali side in the search for the missing person.

Joshi has already forwarded the letter sent by the Indian side to the Home Ministry on Saturday.
