Lalitpur District Court launches virtual testimony from the witness abroad



KATHMANDU: Lalitpur District Court has started virtual testimony from the witness living abroad.

According Lalitpur district court sources, District Court Judge Madan Bahadur Dhami conducted a virtual testimony from a witness in Oman on Thursday.

A Nepali national in Oman in foreign employment gave a testimony against Ahmed Barlas, a Pakistani national who is facing a rape and fraud case in the district court in Lalitpur.

According to Bishnu Prasad Pandey, registrar of Lalitpur District Court, Ram Chandra Mahato, who was living in Lalitpur-14, Nakhipot of Lalitpur at the time of crime gave testimony as witness from Oman.

Barlas, a Pakistani national, went to various hospitals and swindled around Rs 400,000 by saying ‘My wife is in ventilator’, ‘My child is in ICU’, ‘I will return money tomorrow’ and collected money from the relatives of the patient. He is also charged of a rape.

Later a cause on fraud and rape was filed against him in the court.

Although the virtual hearing and testimony of the people within the country had started prior to it, this is the first time the testimony of a witness living abroad is taken from Nepal.
