KATHMANDU: Supporters of UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli have demonstrated against the Supreme Court (SC) order that stripped Oli of the prime ministerial post and made opposition leader the prime minister in Oli’s hometown Damak, Jhapa, Wednesday.

UML cadres rallied from Ganatantra Chowk in Damak and chanted slogans in favor of Oli. The rally traversed different parts of the city. UML cadres, local leaders, people’s representatives elected from UML and others took part in the demonstration.

Pro-Oli supporters also expressed their anger toward the faction led by senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, whose efforts overthrew Oli and helped in forming a Nepali Congress-led government.

Effigy of Chief Justice Rana burned

UML cadres also burnt the effigy of Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana during the demonstration, saying the SC order was against the popular vote of the people.

Earlier, supporters of the opposition also rallied welcoming the SC order and the formation of a new government led by Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba.
