KATHMANDU: The telephone of the Nepali Consulate General, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia has been hacked and unscrupulous calls have been made to Nepalis seeking their personal
Consul General Deepak Khadka informed about the telephone hacking and scam Wednesday afternoon. Khadka said he came to know about the hack cum scam after some Nepalis reported that they received a call from the consulate inquiring about their personal and financial details.
At least two Nepalis complained that they received a call from Consulate General’s telephone, were asked their bank and personal details. Consul General Khadka has clarified in a Facebook post that the consulate never calls to ask for personal details.
In case of such calls, the Consulate General should be contacted immediately, he added.
There had been similar complaints about Nepalis being cheated of money through telephone hack about two years ago. The consulate had then lodged a complaint with the police.
Consul General Khadka said a complaint would be lodged this time as well.
