UML Senior leader Nepal demands equal status with Chairman Oli

KATHMANDU: The most discussed resolution of intra-party dispute between two rivaling factions of ruling CPN-UML has experienced a hitch after senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal sought equal status as the party Chairman KP Oli.

Although the taskforce members representing Chairman Oli and disgruntled Khanal-Nepal faction claimed that there would a ‘historical’ announcement of the resolution of the dispute on Sunday morning, the long awaited message has been delayed again after the taskforce could not decide on serious demands like implementation of ‘one person, one post’ policy and giving equal status to leader Nepal.

According to sources, the announcement is unlikely to come before the Supreme Court verdict on the writ petitions related to the dissolution of the House of Representatives unless the two concerns of Senior leader Nepal are addressed.

“To run the party systematically and ethically, the ‘one person, one post’ has to be addressed,” a standing committee member close to leader Nepal said on Sunday, “No announcements letting Chairman Oli hold the post of party chair and Prime Minister can make any substantive changes in the situation; hence, there is no use of such announcements.”

While the Khanal-Nepal faction is taking a strong stand on power-sharing for the implementation of ‘one person, one post’,  Prime Minister and  party chairman Oli faction is not ready to let either slip off from the establishment’s hold.

Yet, the taskforce meeting is still underway at Singha Durbar.
