Deuba alleges Speaker Mahara of being ‘gutless’

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba today criticized the Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) of being the ‘most weakest, cowardly and gutless’ Speaker in the country’s parliamentary history.

Referring to Prime Minister K P Oli’s what he said ‘use of derogatory language’ in his address at the parliamentary session on Tuesday, NC supremo Deuba ridiculed Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara of acting cowardly before the Prime Minister. “The Speaker did not even dare to act when we raised our voices to remove those derogatory words used by the Prime Minister,” he said amid applauds at the Rastriya Sabhagriha in Kathmandu while launching the awareness campaign of the party that began today.

Stating that the parliament usually belongs to the opposition, Deuba said, “Unfortunately, the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has captured both the government and the parliament.”

NC President Deuba also raised the issue of the widely-talked about ‘My Government’ episode, which President Bidya Devi Bhandari used the term while reading out the government’s policies and programs on Friday. “In fact, the President used the wrong phrase,” Deuba said querying, “Has the time come to call the President ‘Her Majesty” as what has been practiced in Great Britain?”

He went on to criticize what he said ‘communists’ for showing their attitude when it comes to criticizing the President. “I don’t understand why they cannot tolerate President’s criticism .”

Deuba did not spare Prime Minister K P Oli either. “The Prime Minister keeps on changing his words. His actions do not match to this promises.”

Even though he came down heavily on Prime Minister Oli-led government for interfering in all state organs, Deuba said NC will continue to play the role of a responsible opposition. “We do not believe in unruly behavior,” he added, however saying that it is high time that his party endeavored to challenge the communist’s autocratic regime.
