Task force formed to study damage to bridges by monsoon floods

KATHMANDU: The government has formed a seven-member task force under the coordination of Joint Secretary and Deputy Director-General of Department of Roads Deepak Shrestha to study damage to bridges due to monsoon floods.

The task force was formed at a ministerial meeting held at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport on Sunday in the presence of Minister Basanta Kumar Nembang Monday.

According to the Ministry, the task force will analyze the damage caused to roads and bridges across the country due to incessant rains for the past few days, especially the completed and under construction bridges, and recommend measures to adopt so as to minimize damage by July 22. Similarly, the task force is also to submit a departmental report of each damaged bridge during the ongoing monsoon in a month.

The report will include suggestions regarding precautions to be taken for the reconstruction of damaged bridges, type of foundation to be adopted for bridge construction, type of superstructure, provision to be included in the tender process for selection of construction businesses that have proven experience and expertise, among others.

Similarly, other issues deemed appropriate by the task force will be included in the report.
