NC president Deuba lays foundation stone for BP Centre



KATHMANDU: On the initiatives of Jananayak BP Koirala Memorial Trust, ‘BP Study and Research Centre’ is to be built at Hadigaun of Bishalnagar in Kathmandu.

Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba laid a foundation stone for the Centre’s building amidst a programme here today.

The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Bagmati Province Government and the Kathmandu Metropolis are jointly funding to undertake the project which is estimated to cost Rs 90 million.

On the occasion, leader Deuba said though the project was conceptualised long back ago, it could not be brought into action due to several reasons.

He lauded the Trust for its initiation for establishing the Centre in recognition of BP like great politician.

Party’s General Secretary Dr Shashanka Koirala described BP as an international personality.

As he said, the Centre would also be a research venue for foreigners. Kathmandu Metropolis mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya said he was pleased to be part of the project dedicated to respected politician and an ideal personality.

The Metropolis has taken the project as one of its significant achievements, according to the mayor.

Trust general secretary Ramchandra Pokhrel said the establishment of the Centre would definitely help further promote and explore about BP’s thoughts, his political and literary life. BP is the first elected Prime Minister of Nepal.

The seven-storey project is expected to complete within the next two years and it will be undertaken under the management and supervision of the Kathmandu Metropolis.
