AG Badal accuses NC President Deuba of misusing UML lawmakers signatures

KATHMANDU: Attorney General (AG) Ramesh Badal has said that Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba misused the signatures of CPN-UML lawmakers.

While presenting arguments before the Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court, on behalf of the defendants, on the writ petition filed against the dissolution of the House of Representatives Monday, Badal said that the signatures of lawmakers, including Ganesh Pahadi and Sarala Yadav, were misused. Badal also urged the bench to initiate action on the misuse of signatures.

Responding to AG Badal’s arguments, Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana quizzed Badal, saying, “Isn’t it the right of those lawmakers to state that their signatures have been misused?” Replying to the bench, Badal said, “As the issue was not a trivial matter related to private property but the appointment of Prime Minister, the bench should look into the documents.”

Judge Ishwar Khatiwada suggested that the court was not responsible to look into documents after they were registered. “The task of investigation and action should have been undertaken before the registration. We are not the ones to look into such matter.” He suggested that the government attorneys were responsible for that.

AG Badal said the government was ready to take action if the bench allowed them to investigate and take action against document forgery. “Do we want a Prime Minister who forges documents and misuses signatures?”
