Minister directs to withdraw textbooks containing country’s old map

KATHMANDU: Minister for Education, Science, and Technology Krishna Gopal Shrestha has instructed authorities concerned to withdraw the textbooks containing the country’s old map from the market and take action against those involved in the printing and distribution of such books.

The direction follows the complaint that some private publication houses supplied old textbooks, which read as new editions to the market, just by changing the covers from the previous years.

Addressing the 88th virtual meeting of the Curriculum Development and Evaluation Council held Wednesday, the Minister said those publishers and suppliers responsible for bringing textbooks with old contents would face action as per the law.

He further directed the Curriculum Development Center to promptly seek clarifications from those publishers and book dealers found deceiving the government and pull out such books from the market. “None is expected to violate the rules,” he said.

During the meeting, Secretary at the Ministry Ram Prasad Thapaliya informed that strict action would be taken against those selling books with old maps while Director General of the Center Ana Prasad Neupane promised to proceed towards taking action against such move.

The meeting today endorsed the curriculum of several subjects from Grade 6 to 8.
