DPM Mahato reiterates Nepal is multi-national state

KATHMANDU: Despite being criticized for his allegedly ‘unconstitutional’ remark about multi-nationality, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development Rajendra Mahato has reiterated that Nepal is, and should be made in ‘true sense’, a multi-national state.

Addressing the reception organized to welcome Janata Samajbadi Party’s Thakur-Mahato faction in Kathmandu on Saturday, Mahato affirmed that Nepal is a multi-national state.

“Nepal is full of diversity of different ethnic, class and communities, plurality is the same, so, Nepal is a multi-national state,” Minister Mahato argued.

Stating that plurality is not one caste, one class, one community, he said that everyone should be represented in the government. “Until that happens, people will continue to fight for their rights and their identities,” Mahato added.

Recently sworn in to office as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development, Mahato claimed that the constitution is incomplete.

Mahato’s remarks about ‘multi-nationalism’ have drawn wide criticism from all sectors.
