SSF, NSP set to announce unification

KATHMANDU: Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum (SSF) led by Upendra Yadav and Naya Shakti Party (NSP) led by Coordinator Dr Babauram Bhattarai are set to announce unification amid a program at Nepal Academy in the capital on Monday.

The newly unified party will be Samajbadi Party Nepal (SPN). Earlier, SSF Chairman Upendra Yadav and NSP Coordinator Dr Bhattarai on Saturday inked a deal on the party merger.

According to the program, a joint meeting will take place  on Tuesday and will register the newly unified party at the Office of the Election Commission on May 9.

There will be two chairpersons in the newly formed party – one each from both the parties. According to the agreement, Yadav is executive chairman, Bhattarai will head ‘Federal Council’ while Ashok Rai will be the senior leader in the new party.

The party will have 25 office bearers – 16 from FSFN and nine from Naya Shakti Party. It will have a 380-member central committee.

The general convention of the unified party will be held on September 24, 25 and 26.
