KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has decided to continue efforts to keep the party united.
A Standing Committee (SC) meeting of the UML held at Baluwatar on Tuesday decided in this regard, said SC member Pradeep Gyawali. He added the SC meeting also discussed various efforts that are underway for maintaining party unity.
However, the task force formed between the warring factions to settle dispute in the party a while back has collapsed as the party took action against some members of that task force, he said, adding that if necessary another task force would be formed in future.
Meanwhile, the party decided not to take action against 12 UML leaders who had earlier signed in favor of making Sher Bahadur Deuba the Prime Minister.
The SC meeting also concluded that undue pressure exerted on the Supreme Court regarding parliament dissolution case was against the spirit of independent judiciary.
The party has already expelled senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, Jhala Nath Khanal, Bhim Rawal, Mukunda Neupane, Ram Kumari Jhankri, Kalyani Khadka, Sarala Yadav, Pushpa Karna, Laxmi Chaudhary, Kalila Khatun, and Niradevi Jairu from the party.
The party has also sent explanation letters have to leaders, including Surendra Pandey, Som Prasad Pandey, Ghanashyam Bhusal, Jeevan Ram Shrestha, Krishnalal Maharjan, Birodh Khatiwada, Jhapat Rawal, Bhawani Prasad Khapung, Yagya Sunuwar, Metmani Chaudhary, Deepak Prakash Bhatt, and Narayan Khatiwada.
