Why didn’t NC Prez Deuba agree to go for impeachment and no-confidence motion?

KATHMANDU: Opposition parties have intensified meetings after President Bidya Bhandari announced the mid-term polls after dissolving the House of Representatives (HoR) on Friday night

Nepali Congress Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman  Pushpa Kamal Dahal alias Prachanda, UML senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal and Janata Samajwadi Party Chairman Upendra Yadav in a meeting held in Budhanilkantha yesterday dwelled on variouis options including the no-confidence motion and impeachment against the Prime Minister.

It is learnt that Deuba did not agree to Nepal’s proposal to move ahead by bringing a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister KP Oli.

Deuba in the all-party meeting stressed the need to go for the formation of the new government pursuant to Article 76 (5) as he wanted to form the government under his own leadership.

On the other hand, NC senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel was in favor of the no-confidence motion and impeachment.

However, Deuba did not agree to do so presuming that the situation would take another turn if done so.

Political pundits have analyzed that Oli has taken an advantage of the situation since Deuba became soft on Oli.

Prachanda, Nepal and JSP leader Upendra Yadav have been dissatisfied with Deubas’ attitude, it is learnt.

President Bhandari has dissolved the House of Representatives on the recommendation of the Prime Minister and announced the mid-term elections for November 12 and 19, a year ahead of schedule.

Issuing a statement, the President’s Office said the President dissolved the House as per Article 76(7) of the Constitution on the recommendation of the cabinet.
