KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court is scheduled to decide on May 31 whether to issue an interim order in a petition seeking to repeal an ordinance amending the Constitutional Council (Functions, Duties, Rights and Procedures) Act, 2066, issued by President Bidya Devi Bhandari last month.
In the Wednesday’s virtual hearing on the writ petition filed by advocate Punya Prasad Khatiwadahad seeking an annulment of the ordinance issued by President Bhandari on May 4, Justice Mira Khadka announced that the SC would give its verdict on May 31.
Justice Khadka’s bench directed the government to submit its reply within 15 days including the causes, if any, the Court need not issue order as per the petitioner’s demand.
The petitioner had also sought an interim order from the Supreme Court to direct the government not to implement the ordinance immediately.
The Supreme Court has called for a discussion on May 31, saying that it will give a decision after listening to both parties.
