Hospitals in Kathmandu say they cannot treat additional COVID-19 patients due to oxygen scarcity

KATHMANDU: Some hospitals in Kathmandu have said they would not be able to admit and treat additional COVID-19 patients due to an acute shortage of oxygen.

On Wednesday, the Tokha-based Grande International Hospital said was not able to admit any COVID-19 patients since it is running out of oxygen.

In a statement, the hospital said that authorities have not made necessary arrangements to provide additional oxygen to the hospitals.

Stating that the government has been providing 100 cylinders of oxygen a day, the hospital said that the quantity amount of oxygen provided to them will not be sufficient to treat additional patients.

Likewise, other private hospitals in Kathmandu including Nepal Medical College, Medicare, Mediciti, and Helping Hands have also said that they were not able to admit and treat patients due to oxygen shortage.
