KATHMANDU: Chief District Officers (CDOs) of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur have enforced week-long prohibitory orders in Kathmandu Valley from 6 am Thursday (April 29) to midnight of May 5.
A meeting of the three CDOs held at Kathmandu District Administration Office (DAO) Monday made the decision to this effect amid the sharp spike in coronavirus cases in the Valley.
Authorities have banned public gathering and other activities, including entertainment venues such as gyms, party palaces, that involves big crowds in a bid to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
In terms of ceremonies such as marriages and bratabandha, maximum of 15 persons can participate after obtaining permission from DAOs.
Grocery section of department stores will remain open from 10 am to 5 pm whereas retail grocery shops from 6 am to 10 am and 5 pm to 7 pm.
Likewise, public transport, among others, are also banned till to curb the coronavirus spread.
Delivery of non-essential services will be prohibited, and private as well as public transportation vehicles will not be allowed to ply. However, international aviation service will continue to operate. The DAO will facilitate anyone who already has a visa and air ticket to reach airport.
According to the instruction, government offices providing most essential services will remain open while banks and financial institutions will open following safety protocols.
Demonstrations and rallies for any purpose have been prohibited in the Valley to strictly comply with the coronavirus appropriate behavior.
Kathmandu Valley is badly affected by the coronavirus pandemic. On Monday, the capital city recorded 1,567 coronavirus cases.
It should be noted that the Covid-19 Coordination Management Committee (CCMC), too, had suggested the government enforce prohibitory order.
