SURKHET: Police have arrested a man in Surkhet for allegedly dousing his wife with petrol and setting her on fire.

The accused has been identified as 49-year-old Jay Bahadur Rana of Ramghat in Bheriganga Municipality-13, Surkhet. He allegedly attacked his 50-year-old wife, Maheshwori Rana, on Tuesday evening.

According to police, the couple’s 18-year-old daughter, Pushpa Rana, put out the fire after finding her mother on fire.

Pushpa then took her mother to Karnali Provincial Hospital in Kalagaun, Surkhet, for treatment.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Kavindra Singh Bohara of the District Police Office, Surkhet, said Maheshwori had suffered burns to around 36 percent of her body, including her face, neck and other parts of her body.

She was referred to Nepalgunj on Tuesday for further treatment. After doctors determined that treatment there would also be difficult, she was referred to Lucknow, India, at around 11:30 pm for further treatment.
