UK reports 7 deaths among AstraZeneca jab recipients

LONDON: The UK medical regulator said out of 30 people who suffered blood clots after receiving the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, seven have died.

The deaths come as several European countries temporarily halted the use of the AstraZeneca jab over potential link to blood clots, reports have said.

The UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) said that “Out of the 30 reports up to and including 24 March, sadly 7 have died”.

The reports of thrombosis came after 18.1 million doses of the vaccine had been administered in the country, according to India Today.

Most of the cases were a clotting condition called cerebral venous sinus thrombosis.

There were, however, no reports of blood clots from the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, the UK regulator said.
