JSP not to ally with any party unless Resham Chaudhary released

KATHMANDU: Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) has been a key player in the changed political context for a new power sharing following the Supreme Court’s verdict.

Chairman of the newly revived CPN-UML and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has approached the JSP for an alliance to form a new government.

Similarly, CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has also held meetings with JSP leaders to form a three-party government including the Nepali Congress (NC).

On the other hand, JSP has been seeking a guarantee for the release of lawmaker Resham Chaudhary from both the parties.

Both UML and Maoist Center held meetings with JSP leaders on Wednesday for a new alliance.

According to sources, Prime Minister Oli is targeting leaders from Ratriya Janata Party background for an alliance within the JSP while the other leaders are against the Oli-led government.

CPN-UML needs only 18 lawmakers for a simple majority government and Oli is trying to coax JSP leaders from former RJP background for a new power sharing in case CPN (Maoist Center) withdraws its support to his government.

The Maoist Center has said it will not withdraw its support to the Oli-led government until a new alliance is formed.

Earlier on Tueday, Maoist Center Chairman Dahal had held meetings with NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba and JSP’s Federal Council Chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai to this effect.
