WASHINGTON: Donations are being poured in for the Nepali Uber driver Shubhakar Khadka who was manhandled by passengers in San Francisco of the United States of America (USA).
GoFundMe, an institute, has appealed to the people around the globe to extend financial assistance to Khadga saying that he is not able to immediately return to work due to tension and fear.
The institute has already raised a US $23,000 in fund exceeding the original target of US $20,000 set at the beginning.
Khadka, who had gone to the USA eight years ago, was abused and manhandled by the passengers last Sunday.
One of the three female passengers who got into his vehicle was wearing a mask. He told the other two women to put on masks and pulled over his vehicle near a gas station.
It is mandatory for passengers to put on masks as per the standards set by Uber, a ride-sharing company.
No sooner had Khadaga pulled over the vehicle and instated on wearing masks than the woman manhandled Khadka and snatched away his mobile phone set, too.
A video footage shows the woman coughing at his face after snatching away his mask from his face and attacking him with pepper spray. “If I were from the continent other than Asia, they would not have manhandled me,” said Khadka.
This incident has hit the headlines across the globe saying that an Uber driver of Asian origin was manhandled and attacked with pepper spray.
Sans Francisco police said it is investigating the case.
