Thailand launches yacht quarantine for tourists

BANGKOK: Tourists in Thailand are required to spend a mandatory two-week coronavirus quarantine on a yacht.

The Thai government hopes that this new initiative will bring about 1.8 billion baht ($58m) in yacht tourism revenue, BBC has reported.

This move is aimed at reviving Thailand’s tourism industry — hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic.

In January, Thailand had announced a scheme to allow tourists to spend their quarantine on a golf course, the report said.

The country relies heavily on tourists. It had banned visitors last year to limit the virus spreading.

BBC said that the yacht quarantine initiative allows visitors with a negative coronavirus test to spend time on board a yacht in Phuket.
