Nepal’s GDP reaches 3.943 trillion, per capita income at USD 1134

KATHMANDU: The Central Bureau of Statistics has changed the base year of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) calculation.

The Department has changed the previous base year 2000/2001 to 2010/11.

As per the new base year, the size of Nepal’s economy has reached Rs 3.943 trillion.

Similarly, GDP rebasing has shown that the annual per capita income of Nepalis has also increased.

As per base year 2000/2001, per capita income of Nepalis was USD 1085, but, with new base year 2010/2011, the per capital income has increased by USD 49 and reached 1134.

With the change in the base year of GDP, the contribution of service sector has increased by 8.4 percent while the burden of agriculture (primary) and secondary (manufacturing and processing) has shrunk by 9.5 and 3.2 percent respectively.

According to the previous base year, the weight of primary, secondary and tertiary sectors was 37.6, 14.4 and 48 percent respectively. As per the base year 2010/11, it has been 34.0, 13.9 and 52.2 respectively.

The burden of the service sector in the economy has remained the same as before, but the load size has reached 52.2 percent.
