Kerung border point to resume from Monday

KATHMANDU: Kerung border point, a key border trade route with China in Rasuwagadhi district, is resuming from Monday.

The Kerung border point, which has been closed for Lhosar by the Chinese side, will be reopened from Monday as a result of the government’s effective diplomatic efforts, a government official said.

“The Chinese side has agreed to reopen the border point from Monday,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Sewa Lamsal said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Consulate General in Lhasa (Tibet) worked hard to convince China that the risk of the epidemic was negligible in Nepal and that the customs office officials, security forces, truck drivers and workers were given vaccination against the coronavirus.

According to Ram Prasad Regmi, Chief of the Rasuwagadhi Customs Office, the corona-positive workers had earlier failed to convey the message to the Chinese authorities that they have given vaccines against COVID-19.

Goods such as readymade garments, watches, shoes, rugs, slippers, apples, electrical and electronic goods are being imported to Nepal from Kerung through Rasuwagadhi.

Likewise, herbs and handicrafts are being exported from Nepal to China.
