Security Council discusses lifting ban on Biplav outfit

KATHMANDU: A meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) that started at around 9 am on Tuesday concluded after discussing various issues including the removal of the ban on the Biplav outfit.

According to the sources, the meeting held at Singhdurbar discussed the removal of the ban on the Biplav outfit’s activities as the group has been in various direct and indirect talks with the government.

The government has intensified its talks with the Biplav outfit’s senior leadership.

Netra Bikram Chand alias ‘Biplav’, the General Secretary of the outfit, had issued a press statement expressing readiness to sit in dialogue with the government provided the government ensured the removal of the ban imposed against the group.

It is estimated that the Council of Ministers—at the recommendation of the NSC—will declare the removal of the ban on the Biplav outfit.

NSC meeting also discussed the challenges for the upcoming election and many other security-related issues, the source added.
