Customs points with China closed again



KATHMANDU: Two major trade ports with the northern neighbor, China have been closed again after the Chinese staff in the customs office have gone for the Chinese New Year holidays.

Tatopani Customs Office at Sindhupalchowk and Rasuwagadhi Customs Office in Rasuwa have been closed again.

Interestingly, Rasuwagadhi Customs Office has not been fully operational for nearly a year since the coronavirus pandemic outbreak last March.

According to Ram Prasad Regmi, the Chief of Rasuwagadhi Customs Office, the customs office that had seen the limited import of late has closed on the Chinese side since Thursday.

“Chinese customs officials have informed that the Chinese have gone back to their homes to celebrate their New Year, and it may take a long time to come,” Regmi offered a briefing at request, “it might affect at least 10 days more.”

Likewise, Tatopani Customs Office on the Chinese side has been closed for the celebration affecting the import of goods since Friday.
