NC leader Thapa takes strong exception to Jhakri’s arrest

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Gagan Thapa has taken strong exception to the action taken by the government against NCP Prachanda-Nepal faction leader Ram Kumari Jhakri for questioning over the unconstitutional move of the government.

Posting a status on social media today, leader Thapa lashed out at the Oli-led government for detaining Jhakri for criticizing its undemocratic and unconstitutional move.

“It is a height of despotism to breach the Constitution and detain those who question over these undemocratic and unconstitutional acts,” said Thapa in his message.

Accusing the incumbent president of acting like the monarchs in the past, Thapa said the intimidation of the government will not silence the true voice.

Police have arrested Jhakri by handing over an arrest warrant under the ‘act of treason against the state’ from her Shankhamul-based residence at 1 pm today.

Chanting slogans against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and President Bidya Bhandari, a huge number of cadres of the disgruntled faction gathered near Jhakri’s residence and protested after police reached Jhakri’s residence to arrest her.
