NPC stresses on coordination, objective data for sustainable development



KATHMANDU: The National Planning Commission has stressed the need of objective data system to monitor the progress on indicators of sustainable development goals (SDGs).

The NPC released ‘SDG progress report 2016-2019’ and ‘SDG: Localization Resource Booklet 2020′.

Releasing the documents, NPC Vice-Chairman Prof Dr Pushparaj Kandel said time has come for Nepal to boost competitive capacity for getting graduated to developing country. He reminded that Nepal was well off on indicators on social sector.

All three layers of government should make joint efforts to achieve sustainable development goals, he said, arguing that federal government could make policy, provincial government could facilitate it and local government implement.

On the occasion, National Assembly Member Dr Bimala Rai Poudel said all sectors’ partnership and coordination was essential to achieve SDGs.

Secretary at NPC Kewal Prasad Bhandari viewed that the study on SDG progress showed Nepal could not achieve well on employment and income fronts.

The progress report mentioned that the achievement of SDG was adversely affected due to low capital expenditure. The NPC further said the data was available on only 44 percent indicators of SDGs.
