CJ Rana falls out with advocate, denies time demanded

KATHMANDU:  Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana has fallen out with former Attorney General Raman Shrestha after the latter asked for five hours for deliberating his arguments on the writ petition.

Chief Justice did not allow Shrestha to have time demanded.  The advocacy is to be carried out on behalf of still five more petitioners against the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR).

Further, the deliberation on behalf of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has not started yet.

“The government attorneys are yet to deliver their arguments on the writ petitions. If we give time to you, others will also follow suit, said CJ Rana, asking,”What’s about others if we give you five hours?”

Replying to CJ Rana, Shrestha said, “I won’t repeat. I will speak succinctly. You can stop me when necessary.”

CJ Rana did not agree to his plea and granted him one hour for delivering his views to the maximum, referring to 10 to 15 minutes that he has been providing to other advocates.

Raman Shrestha started debating the writs following an argument with CJ Rana that lasted for about three minutes.
