WASHINGTON: The US House of Representatives (HoR) has impeached President Donald Trump for “inciting insurrection” at last week’s Capitol riot.

As many as 10 Republicans sided with Democrats to impeach the president by 232-197, BBC reported.

Trump has become the first president in US history to be impeached twice by Congress.

Trump will now face a trial in the Senate. If convicted, he could even face being barred from ever holding office again, according to BBC.

He will, however, not have to quit the White House before his term ends in one week as the Senate will not reconvene in time.

Trump leaves office on 20 January. He lost to Democrat Joe Biden in last month’s elections.
