High time that MCC be finalized: Minister Rayamajhi

KATHMANDU: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Top Bahadur Rayamajhi has said that the issue of whether to implement the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact or repeal it should be finalized at the earliest.

Speaking at a program in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Minister Rayamajhi said that there was no need for Nepal to wait for the MCC for the development of its energy sector.

“MCC is in Nepal’s interest since it will invest in roads and energy,” Minister Rayamajhi said adding, “However, this needs to be finalized soon since it has courted controversy here.”

The minister also emphasized the need to build transmission lines to fulfil the demands as well as to export electricity.

He also clarified that the problem of power outage has been witnessed due to weak infrastructure.
