EC says NCP disputes to be resolved as per Chapter 9 of Political Parties Act

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has written separate letters to Prime Minister KP Oli and Chairman of the dissident faction Pushpa Kamal Dahal on the issue of giving legitimacy to the Nepal Communist Party (NCP).

The EC wrote to the PM Oli-led faction as well as the Dahal-Nepal led faction after going through the letters and documents submitted by both the factions claiming legitimacy of the party.

Sources said the EC has given a week’s time to the Dahal-led faction to respond to the letter. Meanwhile, it has not given any deadline to the Oli-led faction to respond to the letter.

The EC, in the letters, has said that the issue could be solved according to Sections 43 and 44 of Chapter 9 of the Political Parties Act, 2017.

The Sections has provided the EC commission with the authority to resolve disputes between the parties about their name, and election symbols.

Both the factions had earlier submitted the signatures claiming majority and the party’s legitimacy.
